Jim and Me

In the book Jim and Me I think the authors purpose is to show that you can't change history. Many times throughout the book they try and change the past but fail. For example, they went back in time to 1912 to try and prevent Jim Thorpe's medals from being taken away. But by the time they got there it was too late because the Olympics were over and the medals already got taken from him.Another example of how you can't change history is when Bobby got the idea of taken Jim Thorpe home with them so he could start his life over. But since Jim Thorpe was Bobby's great grandfather, if they took him to the present day then he wouldn't have kids which means his kids wouldn't have kids which means when they get there Bobby wouldn't be born. So they decided not to take Jim Thorpe to the present day with them and realized there was nothing they could do about Jim's medals being taken away.

Jim and Me

The main character in the book Jim and Me name was Joe Stoshack. He changed a lot from the beginning of the book to the end of the book. For example, in the beginning of the book he hated Bobby Fuller, the guy he took with him back in time. But after traveling back in time with him, he spent some time with him and got to know him. They eventually became close friends by the end of the book. Another small way he changed was that in the beginning of the book he didn't know who Jim Thorpe was, but by the end of the book he knew a lot about Jim Thorpe.
Another character in the book, Bobby Fuller also changed a lot from the beginning of the book to the end of the book. In the beginning of the book he was really bad and hated Joe Stoshack. But by the end of the book, he became a good person and became friends with Joe Stoshack. An example of him becoming a good person is when they were in 1912 and he let Jim Thorpe have his ipod even though it was expensive. Another example of him becoming a good person is that he gave Joe Stoshacks dad his John McGraw book that had a lot of his writing in it, even though it was very valuable.

Jim and Me

The problem in my book is how Jim Thorpe got his medals taken away from him. Jim Thorpe was one of the  greatest athletes of the 20th century. He played many different sports such as football, baseball, basketball, and many more. In 1912 he was in the Olympics and won many medals. But then it was found out that he was not an amateur athlete because he played semi-pro baseball for 2 summers before the Olympics. Back then you were not allowed to compete in the Olympics if you were an amateur athlete. So they took all of his medals away. That's why the main characters in the book wanted to travel back in time and meet him. They were going to try and prevent his medals from being taken away.
It's unfair because Jim Thorpe won those medals fair in square but they took all the medals he won away from him just because he played semi-pro baseball for 2 summers and earned only 2 dollars per game. After the medals were taken away from him his life was ruined forever. He was no longer seen as the greatest athlete in the world anymore. But now the rules have changed so that amateur athletes are allowed to compete in the Olympics. A long time after his death, his medals were returned to his children.
